Dahlia Publishing is a small independent publishing press based in Leicester. We publish contemporary, original fiction and champion regional and diverse voices. Dahlia Publishing was established by writer and editor, Farhana Shaikh in 2010.
As a small press, we undertake most of our publishing jobs in house and are often under-resourced to do the things we love. For this reason, we can only publish what we really, really love. We publish 2-3 books each year and continue to build new audiences through our projects, The Asian Writer and Leicester Writes.
Our diversity policy is at the heart of everything we do and we’re passionate about bringing about much-needed change in the UK publishing scene. We would love for publishing to be more reflective of the multicultural society we live in. Since our early beginnings we’ve worked alongside local universities to offer aspiring editors an opportunity to gain an insight into how publishing works. We’ve offered work-shadowing and mentoring opportunities to students at Loughborough University. More recently, we have been working alongside the English department at University of Leicester, to offer e-placements for final year students.
Dahlia Publishing is signed up to the Equip Publishing Equalities Charter. We aim to build a supportive and inspiring community for writers where creativity can thrive. Mainly we do this through our projects. If you’re a writer based in our hometown Leicester, do join us at monthly Writers Meet Up Leicester at Cafe Bru, Granby St Leicester on the first Tuesday each month.
